Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels January 1964 concert flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising the Max Roach Quartet with singer Abby Lincoln at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels [Belgium] on Sunday, 19th January, 1964. The quartet featured tenor saxophonist Clifford Jordan, bassist Eddie Khan, and pianist Coleridge Perkinson (it does say Mal Waldron on the flyer, but I’m pretty sure it was Coleridge Perkinson on the piano). The quartet was touring Europe performing Roach’s 1960 album We Insist! trying to get the message of the civil rights movement across to the European audiences: le cri d’espoir des noirs des états du sud: we insist freedom now! There is an unofficial recording from the concert in Copenhagen on 14th January, 1964  available on CD. The flyer features delicate artwork by Manfred Hürrig.

The flyer measures 13.5 x 19.0 cm and is beautifully printed in gold and black inks on thin, matte-coated paper stock. There is a faint horizontal fold line to the middle of the flyer, else in excellent unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
