Berlin, Germany: Schlagzeug #4 April 1959.

Original April 1959 issue of the German jazz magazine “Schlagzeug” (trans. “drums”) with American singer and actress Abbey Lincoln (1930—2010) on the front cover. This issue contains the articles “Wenn der Duke lächelt”, “Die Dorseys geben den Ton an”,  and “Goethe und der Jazz”. Also in this issue: Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Connie Kay, Woody Herman, Jo Jones, Sidney Bechet, Ray Brown, Duke Ellington, and more. Schlagzeug was a collectible but short-lived German jazz magazine, crammed with news, reviews, pictures and adverts. Published in Berlin during the late 1950’s.

15.5 x 21.5 mm, 36 pp. Trimmed paper wrapper, staple bound. All text in German. There is a diagonal crease to top left corner of the back wrapper, else in near excellent unmarked condition. Additional photos available on request.
