Opera, Marseille March 1948 concert program
Unique, one of a kind, original vintage concert program for La Nuit du Jazz staged at l’Opera in Marseille [France] on Friday, 5th March, 1948, presented by La Mutuelle de la Presse Marseillaise and Le Hot Club de France. Performing artists included Milton Mezzrow, Fernandel, Josette Peiro, the Peters Sisters, and of course Dizzy Gillespie with his bop big band. The band featured alto saxophonists Howard Johnson and John Brown; tenor saxophonists George Nicholas and Joe Hales; baritone saxophonist Cecil Payne; trombonists Ted Kelly and Bill Shepherd; trumpeters Benny Bailey, Dave Burns, Elmon Wright, and Lamar Wright Jr.; bassist Al McKibbon; congas player Chano Pozo; drummer Kenny Clarke; pianist John Lewis; and singer Kenny Pancho Hagood. The program has been authentically signed by Gillespie next to his photo on page 6.
In original b/w pictorial wrappers, single staple bound, 16.0 x 24.4 cm, 16 pp. All text in French. In excellent condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional photos available on request.
