Jahrhunderthalle, Frankfurt November 1970 concert poster
Original first printing concert poster advertising jazz giants Dave Brubeck and Gerry Mulligan’s joint concert at the Jahrhunderthalle in Frankfurt [Germany] on Monday, 9th November, 1970, presented by Lippmann+Rau. When Brubeck disbanded the “Classic Quartet” in December 1967 to concentrate on composing, he did not envisage that he would be required to form a new Quartet and tour so soon afterwards. In 1968, he upheld a promise to his old friend George Wein, to appear at the second annual Newport Jazz Festival in Mexico. He had considered appearing himself without a group, but in the end put together a new Quartet of bassist Jack Six, drummer Alan Dawson and Gerry Mulligan. A great friendship was struck and Mulligan continued to tour with Brubeck for the next five years as “Dave Brubeck Trio and Gerry Mulligan” or on occasions “Dave Brubeck Trio with Paul Desmond and Gerry Mulligan”. They recorded several albums together, including Live At The Berlin Philharmonie, which was from this Fall 1970 German tour.
The poster measures 59.3 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. Unfolded, but with a 3 cm closed rip to the bottom border and slight paper loss to the center of the right side border. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
