Stadthalle, Offenbach October 1978 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising legendary American rock’n’roll pioneer Chuck Berry at the Stadthalle in Offenbach [Germany] on Monday, 16th October, 1978, presented by Alpha Concerts, and with British doo-wop revival band Darts as special guests. In the 1970s Berry toured on the strength of his earlier successes. He was on the road for many years, carrying only his Gibson guitar, confident that he could hire a band that already knew his music no matter where he went. As a consequence, working with terrible backup bands and turning in sloppy, out-of-tune performances, tarnished his reputation with younger fans and oldtimers alike. Berry hadn’t released a studio album since Chuck Berry (1975), but after the 1978 European tour he went back into the studio to record his nineteenth studio album, Rockit, released in 1979 by Atco Records. It was his only release for the label, following his departure in 1975 from Chess Records. Rockit was Berry’s last studio album for 38 years, until Chuck in 2017. At the request of president Jimmy Carter, Berry performed at the White House on 1st June, 1979.

The poster measures 59.1 x 83.6 cm (approx. 23.2″ by 32.9″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. Neatly folded, else in remarkably near excellent unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
