April 1957 UK concert tour program & ticket stub (1st British Tour)
Original vintage concert program for American jazz pianist, composer and bandleader Count Basie’s April 1957 nationwide tour of Great Britain, presented by Harold Fielding. This was Basie’s first British tour, kicking off at the Royal Festival Hall in London on 2nd April and ending at the Stoll Theatre in London on 22nd April. The orchestra for the tour included Marshall Royal, Bill Graham (alto); Frank Foster, Frank Wess (tenor); Charlie Fowlkes (baritone); Joe Newman, Thad Jones, Wendell Culley, Renaldo Jones (trumpets); Henry Coker, Bill Hughes, Benny Powell (trombones); Freddie Greene (guitar); Eddie Jones (bass); Sonny Payne (drums), and Joe Williams (vocals). Original ticket stub for the evening concert at Davis Theatre in Croydon (London) on Sunday, 7th April, laid in.
In original orange and black pictorial wrappers, staple bound, 20.6 x 27.0 cm, 12 pp. Light wear to spine and extremities, else near fine, tightly bound and clean without markings. Additional photos available on request.
