February 1957 UK concert tour program

Original vintage concert program produced for blues giant Big Bill Broonzy’s February 1957 nationwide tour of Great Britain, presented by the National Jazz Federation, and with Brother John Sellers, Chris Barber’s Jazz Band, Mick Mulligan and George Melly, and Ken Colyer’s Jazzmen, also on the bill. Shortly after the tour, Broonzy was diagnosed with throat and lung cancer. One lung was removed and part of his vocal cords cut. He continued to peform until his death on 14th August, 1958, in Chicago. He is buried in the Lincoln Cemetery in Blue Island, Illinois. Broonzy was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1980. Original flyer and ticket for the concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London on Saturday, 16th February, 1957, laid in.
In original red and black pictorial uncoated wrappers, staple bound, 21.0 x 27.0 cm, 20 pp. In excellent complete condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional images available on request.
