Konserthuset, Stockholm April 1954 concert program

Original vintage concert program for American jazz clarinetist and big band leader Woody Herman’s performance at Konserthuset in Stockholm [Sweden] on Sunday, 4th April, 1954, presented by Estrad. The concert in Stockholm was part of Herman’s highly successful first European tour during April and May 1954 with the Third Herd. Bassist Red Kelly remembers the triumphal tour: “We weren’t used to that kind of adulation. We were treated like rock stars are today. They tried to get the buttons off of our coats and all that stuff.” The 15-man band for the tour consisted of John Howell, Reuben MacFall, Dick Collins, Al Porcino, and Bill Castagnino (trumpets); Dick Kenney, Keith Moon, and Cy Touff (trombones); Jerry Coker, Dick Hafer, Bill Perkins, and Jack Nimitz (saxophones); Charles Flores (drums); Red Kelly (bass); and Nat Pierce (piano) plus featured instrumentalist Ralph Burns and singer Dolly Houston. The concert was recorded by Swedish Radio and eventually released on CD in 1990 as The Third Herd Live in Stockholm 1954.

One sheet folded into four pages, 20.3 x 28.5 cm. All text in Swedish. The program has been folded twice with a few annotations to the program selection inside. Additional photos available on request.
