1972 Japanese CBS/Sony Records Inc. promotional poster for “Paul Simon”
Large original first printing Paul Simon promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Records Inc. in Japan in 1972 to promote the release of his self-titled second studio album, produced by Roy Halee, and originally released in January 1972 on Columbia Records, nearly two years after he split up with longtime musical partner Art Garfunkel. Containing the hit singles “Mother and Child Reunion” and “Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard”, the album reached #4 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the chart for 36 weeks. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in November 1986 for sales exceeding 1,000,000 copies in the US alone. The album topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Japan and Norway. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never commercially available.
The poster measures 56.0 x 83.2 cm (approx. 22″ by 32.8″ inches) and is beautifully printed on medium-thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock.
