Crucifixion, Kyoto December 1984 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising the “San Francisco Blues Festival in Japan” staged at the Crucifixion in Kyoto [Japan] on Sunday, 16th December, 1984. Performing artists included pianist and singer Jimmy McCracklin, singers Little Frankie Lee and Maxine Howard, steel guitarist Freddie Roulette, and guitarist Johnny Heartsman, all accompanied by the Bobby Murray Band, which besides the leader himself, featured bassist Leonard Gill, drummer Kelvin Dixon, and saxophonist Julian Vaught. Over a career that spanned seven decades, McCracklin recorded over 30 albums, and earned four gold records. According to Tom Mazzolini of the San Francisco Blues Festival, McCracklin was arguably the most important musician to come out of the Bay Area in the post-World War II years. He was given a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 1990, and the Living Legend and Hall of Fame award at the Bay Area Black Music Awards, in 2007. Cited by Bob Dylan as a favorite, Jimmy McCracklin died in San Pablo, California on 20th December, 2012, aged 91.

The poster measures 51.4 x 72.5 cm (approx. 20.2″ by 28.5″ inches) and is beautifully printed in red and black inks on thin, coated paper stock.
