Description

Teatro Sistina, Rome November 1969 concert poster

Scarce original first printing concert poster advertising the Oscar Peterson Trio at the Teatro Sistina in Rome [Italy] on Monday, 10th November, 1969, presented by Franco Fontana by association with Norman Granz. For the European tour, Peterson was accompanied by bassist Sam Jones (1924—1981) and drummer Bobby Durham (1937—2008), who had been with him since 1966 and 1967, respectively. Only a few days prior to the Rome concert, they went into the studio with German producer Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer to record the album Hello Herbie with guest guitarist Herb Ellis. This trio also recorded Tristeza on Piano in 1970, but by the time of the next European tour in November 1970, Jones and Durham were replaced by bassist George Mraz and drummer Ray Price.

The poster measures 33.4 x 99.7 cm (approx. 13.1″ by 39.3″ inches) and is beautifully printed in green and orange inks on thin, light coated paper stock (coated on front only). The poster has been folded with a pin hole to each corner and a tiny rip to the top border, else in remarkably near excellent condition. Additional photos available on request.
