Description

Kurhaus, Scheveningen & Concertgebouw, Amsterdam October 1960 concert program

Original vintage concert program produced for the Miles Davis Quintet’s two performances at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on Saturday, 15th October, 1960, presented by Norman Granz in cooperation with Lou van Rees. Two performances on the same day, even in two different cities, weren’t unusual back then, although the time schedule must have been tight considering it’s a one hour drive between Scheveningen and Amsterdam. This was Miles’ second visit to Europe in 1960, but with a quintet that now featured Sonny Stitt, replacing John Coltrane, who had left at the end of the Spring 1960 European tour. Stitt had joined the quintet in June 1960 in time for the Los Angeles Jazz Festival on 17th June, 1960. The rhythm section still featured pianist Wynton Kelly, double bassist Paul Chambers, and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Having toured extensively in Great Britain during September and October, the tour of continental Europe was remarkably short with concerts in Paris (11th Oct), Stockholm (13th Oct), Scheveningen, and Amsterdam only.

Original black and white pictorial matte-coated two-fold brochure, 17.8 x 25.0 cm. All text in Dutch. The program has been folded twice with light wear along the fold lines. Additional images of the program available on request.
