July 1985 Japanese concert tour poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising American Delta blues guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr.’s July 1985 Japanese tour. The six-date tour, with drummer Odie Payne, commenced at the Live Inn in Tokyo on Friday, 5th July and ended at the Crucifixion in Kyoto on 13th July, 1985. Known for being the only guitarist to have learned to play directly from legendary Robert Johnson, Lockwood recorded for Chess Records and other Chicago labels in the 1950s and 1960s. He replaced Louis Myers as the guitarist in Little Walter’s band in 1954, and played on Walter’s #1 hit “My Babe” in 1955. He left the band around 1957 to record several sessions with Sonny Boy Williamson II for Chess Records, sessions which also included Willie Dixon and Otis Spann. At the age of 60, in 1975, he discovered the 12-string guitar and preferentially played it almost exclusively for the latter third of his life. Robert Lockwood Jr. died in Cleveland, Ohio on 21st November, 2006, aged 91.

The poster measures 51.1 x 72.6 cm (approx. 20.1″ by 28.6″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In remarkably near excellent unfolded condition.
