October/November 1989 UK concert tour flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising Lionel Hampton’s Oct/Nov 1989 nationwide tour of Great Britain, commencing at the Lewisham Theatre in London on 22nd October and ending at the Empire Theatre in Sunderland on 6th November, 1989. Presented by Drew Taylor, Hampton’s orchestra for the tour featured Charlie Stephens, Gregory Pryor, Jeff Nelson, Bill Ohashi (trumbones); Ronald Fox, Gerald Brazel, Robert Rutledge, Reginald Pittman (trumpets); Robert sands, André Balarsky, Alexander Stewart, Ed Pazant, Cleve Guyton Jr., Mark Gross (saxophones); Kris Depoort (piano); James Ford (drums); Gabriel Machado (congos); and William Johnson (bass).Hampton remained active until a stroke in Paris in 1991 led to a collapse on stage. That incident, combined with years of chronic arthritis, forced him to cut back drastically on performances. However, he did play at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in 2001 shortly before his death. Lionel Hampton died in New York City, on 31st August 31, 2002, aged 94.

The flyer measures 15.1 x 17.4 cm and is beautifully printed in pink and black inks on thin, matte-coated paper stock. Folded horizontally at the middle, else in excellent unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
