Auditorium Maximum, Hamburg August 1979 concert poster
Large original first printing concert poster advertising American singer and songwriter Rickie Lee Jonesat the Auditorium Maximum in Hamburg on Friday, 31st August, 1979, in support of her classic eponymous debut album, produced by Lenny Waronker and Russ Titelman, and released on 28th February, 1979. Containing the top ten single “Chuck E.’s in Love”, the album received favorable reviews and was an instant commercial success, peaking at #3 on the Billboard 200. By June 1981, the album had sold over two million copies in the US alone. The album cover photography, which is also featured on the poster, was by Norman Seeff and contributed to the image of Jones as a stylish beret-wearing beatnik. Despite Jones’ beautiful looks and street gamine wildness, she would recall that people seemed to only recognize her in public when she was wearing the beret.
The poster measures 59.8 x 84.0 cm (approx. 23.5″ by 33.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. Unfolded, but with a faint horizontal crease line to the middle of the poster, as well as a number of small closed rips to the borders.
