Description

September/October 1958 German concert tour program

Original vintage concert program produced for the “Jazz From Carnegie Hall” package tour of Germany during September and October 1958, presented and produced by Harold Davison in association with Dutch promoter Lou van Rees. When British producer Harold Davison thought of rivalling Norman Granz’ “Jazz At The Philharmonic”, he invented “Jazz from Carnegie Hall”. Although a short-lived affair, the line-up was spectacular. Led by master bop trombonists J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding, the all-star band also featured saxophonists Lee Konitz and Zoot Sims, pianists Phineas Newborn Jr. and Red Garland, double bassist Oscar Pettiford and drummer Kenny Clarke. Although eight musicians were featured, they didn’t perform as an octet, but took turns in different small groups, creating cool and intimate atmospheres. The program has been authentically signed by J.J. Johnson (twice), Kai Winding, Zoot Sims, Lee Konitz, Oscar Pettiford, Kenny Clarke, Red Garland and Phineas Newborn. Also signed and inscribed by promoter Lou van Rees.

In original green and black matte-coated pictorial wrappers, staple bound, 19.1 x 20.0 cm, 16 pp. All text in German. Light wear to spine and extremiries, else in near excellent condition. Additional images of the program available on request.
