Late 1970s Japanese Pablo Records/Polydor KK promo poster (Yasuhisa Yoneda)

Original first printing Milt Jackson promotional poster issued by Pablo Records/Polydor KK in Japan in the late 1970s. Established by jazz impresario Norman Granz in 1973, Pablo Records initially featured recordings by acts that Granz managed: Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, and Joe Pass. Later, the label issued recordings by Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie, Sarah Vaughan, Milt Jackson, and Paulinho da Costa. Jackson recorded for Pablo Records between 1975 and 1984. The label was named after Granz’ close friend, the artist Pablo Picasso. The logo is actually an excerpt from a Picasso artwork. Pablo Records was sold to Fantasy in 1987, but they continued to release previously unissued recordings using the Pablo name. Pablo Records was manufactured in Japan by Polydor KK. The poster features a photo by jazz photographer Yasuhisa Yoneda (sometimes transliterated as “Yoshihisa Yoneda”), with his imprint (Y. Yoneda) to the bottom right corner. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
