Markthalle, Hamburg June 1980 concert poster
Original first printing concert poster advertising English folk-rock singer, songwriter and guitarist Roy Harper at the Markthalle in Hamburg [Germany] on Sunday, 1st June, 1980, presented by Sunrise Concertbüro. Harper was touring Germany in support of The Unknown Soldier, his tenth studio album, produced by Harper and Peter Jenner, and released in April 1980. Kate Bush accompanied Harper on the song “You”, while David Gilmour played guitar on most of the songs and co-wrote five of the album’s ten songs. Harper providing the lyrics and Gilmour the music. Originally, the songs “I’m in Love with You”, “Ten Years Ago” and “The Flycatcher”, were to be released on the proposed earlier (1978-79) Harper album, Commercial Breaks. However, a dispute between Harper and EMI meant Commercial Breaks was not released until 1994. These three songs were re-recorded for The Unknown Soldier, and vary slightly from their original demo composition. The Unknown Soldier was Harper’s last release on Harvest Records. For the tour Harper was accompanied by guitarist Andy Roberts, drummer Preston Heyman, and bassist Mike Sheppard.
The poster measures 59.3 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
