February/April 1961 European concert poster (Meyer)

Original first printing concert poster designed by Swiss artist Paul Meyer to promote American jazz vibraphonist, pianist, percussionist, and bandleader Lionel Hampton’s extensive tour of continental Europe during February, March and April 1961. The ensemble for the tour featured Dave Gonzales, Floyd Jones, Andrew Wood, Vergil Jones (trumpets); Robert Plater, John Neely (alto saxophones); Andrew McGhee, Edward T. Pazant (tenor saxophones); Lonnie Shaw (baritone saxophone); Vincent Prudente, Haleem Rasheed (trombones); Harold Mayburn (piano); Wayne Robinson (drums); Lawrence Burgan (bass); Roland Faulkner (guitar); and Pinnochio James and Bertice Reading (vocals).

Printed by Hub. Hoch, Düsseldorf, the poster measures 83.8 x 58.8 cm (approx. 33″ by 23.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed in orange and black inks on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock.
