Stadthalle, Offenbach June 1971 concert poster
Large original first printing concert poster advertising legendary American rock group Grand Funk Railroad at the Stadthalle in Offenbach [Germany] on Monday, 21st June, 1971, with Steve Marriott’s Humble Pie as special guests. Presented by Horst Lippmann & Fritz Rau, the concert in Offenbach was part of GFR’s 1971 European tour supporting the Survival album – their foruth studio album, produced by Terry Knight and originally released on 15th April, 1971 on Capitol Records. Containing the singles “Feelin’ Alright” and “Gimme Shelter”, the album reached #6 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) in December 1991 for sales exceeding one million copies. As per usual the album was slated by the critics, but loved by the fans. In fact they couldn’t have picked a better time for their first European tour as it turned out to be a massive success playing to sold out audiences everywhere. Many concerts in Germany were literally sold out within 24 hours. The pairing with Humble Pie as their opening act didn’t make matters any worse. There’s this story that manager Terry Knight was very strict with the band about partying that Mark, Don and Mel, in order to sneak out and party with the Pie, would put pillows under their covers to fool Knight just in case he checked in on them …
The poster measures 60.0 x 83.9 cm (approx. 23.6″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. Small diagonal crease to the top left corner, else in remarkably near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item.
