Ernst Merck Halle, Hamburg May 1958 concert poster (A0) (Michel+Kieser)

Large original first printing vintage concert poster advertising American jazz clarinetist and bandleader Benny Goodman at the Ernst Merck Halle in Hamburg [Germany] on Thursday, 8th May, 1958, presented by Wolfgang Jänicke. The concert in Hamburg was part of Goodman’s first visit to Germany. The orchestra for the tour featured tenor saxophonists Zoot Sims and Al Block; alto saxophonist Nick Caiazza; baritone saxophonist Gene Allen; trumpeters Taft Jordan, Johnny Frosk, Billy Hodges, and E. V. Perry; trombonists Rex Peer, Vernon Brown, and Willie Dennis; pianist Roland Henna; guitarist Billy Bauer; bassist Arvell Shaw; drummer Roy Burns; and vocalists Ethel Ennis and Jimmy Rushing. The poster features artwork by noted graphic duo, Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, with their imprint to the top left corner.

The poster measures 83.7 x 119.5 cm and is printed in green and black inks on thin, uncoated paper stock. Folded horizontally at the middle with a tack hole to the corners, and a closed tear to the center of the left side border and to the center of the bottom border.
