Odeon, Hammersmith February 1967 concert flyer
Large original vintage first printing concert flyer advertising jazz giants Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on Sunday, 12th February, 1967. Presented by Harold Davison and Norman Granz, there would be two performances on the same day. A late afternoon concert at 6.00 PM and an evening concert commencing 8.30 PM. Their first joint European tour was in January/February, 1966, and had been an encouraging success. For the first half of each concert, the Ellington Orchestra would be playing from its extensive repertoire, while during the second half, Ella would perform as soloist with the accompaniment of the Ellington Orchestra. On the 1967 tour, however, Ella brought her own trio, which consisted of pianist Jimmie Jones, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Sam Woodyard. Woodyard, of course, had been a member of the Ellington Orchestra from 1955 to 1966.
The flyer measures 18.0 x 25.5 cm and is beautifully printed in orange and black inks on thin, light coated paper stock. Complete with the original postal booking form still intact. Folded twice, else in near excellent unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
