April/May 1974 German concert tour program

Original vintage concert program produced for American jazz pianist and composer Erroll Garner’s April/May 1974 tour of Germany with concerts in Hamburg (28th April), Munich (29th April), Hannover (30th April), Berlin (2nd May), Düsseldorf (11th May), and Frankfurt (12th May). For the European tour Garner was accompanied by bongo player José Mangual, bassist Ernest McCarty, and drummer Jimmie Smith — the same line-up with which he had recorded the Gemini album two years earlier. After his contract with Mercury was up, Garner brought his Octave label to London Records. While a lot of other players in his generation were moving to the Fender Rhodes and nudging toward commercial R&B or fusion, Garner continued to play acoustic piano in his singular and classic way. Erroll Garner died from lung cancer on 2nd January, 1977.

Original black and white pictorial matte-coated trifold brochure, 14.0 x 29.5 cm (folded). All text in German. Faint crease to the top left corner, else in near excellent condition. Additional images of the program available on request.
