November 1973 UK concert tour program


Original vintage concert program for Duke Ellington’s November 1973 British tour, presented by Robert Paterson. Billed as “The World’s Most Honored Musician”, this was Ellington’s last tour UK tour. Ellington died on 24th May, 1974 of complications from lung cancer and pneumonia, a few weeks after his 75th birthday. At his funeral, attended by over 12,000 people at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Ella Fitzgerald summed up the occasion, “It’s a very sad day. A genius has passed.”

In original pictorial uncoated wrappers, staple bound, 20.8 x 29.8 cm, 20 pp. Program notes by Derek Jewel. Very soft vertical fold running down the middle as well as a diagonal crease to the top left corner on the back wrapper. Else near fine, tightly bound and clean.
