Musikhalle, Hamburg December 1972 concert poster (Vormstein+Kortemeier)

Original first printing concert poster advertising British skiffle singer, songwriter and musician Lonnie Donegan (1931–2002) at the Musikhalle in Hamburg [Germany] on Wednesday, 6th December, 1972, presented by Karsten Jahnke, and with German group Leinemann also on the bill. Referred to as the “King of Skiffle”, Donegan was Britain’s most successful and influential recording artist before The Beatles, and influenced a host of 1960s British pop and rock musicians. Donegan had 31 UK Top 30 single hits, including three at number one. He was the first British male singer with two US Top 10 hits. Donegan received an Ivor Novello lifetime achievement award in 1995 and, in 2000, he was made an MBE. Donegan died on 3rd November 2002, aged 71, after a heart attack in Market Deeping, Lincolnshire mid-way through a UK tour, and before he was due to perform at a memorial concert for George Harrison with the Rolling Stones. The poster features artwork by Vormstein and Kortemeier, with the artists’ imprint to the bottom left corner.

The poster measures 84.0 x 58.3 cm (approx. 33.1″ by 23″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
