1982 Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. promo poster

Large original first printing Miles Davis (1926–1991) promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Inc. in Japan in the early 1980s, presumably in 1982 to promote the release of We Want Miles – a double album, produced by Teo Macero, released in May 1982 by Columbia Records. The album combines recordings from the first live appearances by Davis in more than five years, at Boston’s Kix Club, on 27th June, 1981. Other tracks were recorded at Avery Fisher Hall, New York City, on 5th July, and a specially prepared stage at Nishi-Shinjuku in Tokyo on 4th October, 1981. The album featured soprano and tenor saxophonist Bill Evans, guitarist Mike Stern, bassist Marcus Miller, drummer Al Foster, and percussionist Mino Cinelu. We Want Miles won the 1982 Grammy Award for “Best Jazz Instrumental Performance by a Soloist”. The album peaked at a modest #159 on the Billboard 200. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 83.9 x 59.7 cm (approx. 33″ by 23.5″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
