1981 Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. promo poster for “The Man with the Horn”

Large original first printing Miles Davis promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Inc. in Japan in 1981 to promote the release of The Man with the Horn – a studio album, produced by Teo Macero and released on 21st July, 1981 by Columbia Records. It was Miles’ first new studio album since On the Corner (1972), and his first recordings of any kind since 1975, following a six-year reclusive retirement. The title of the album is a reference to Young Man with a Horn – a 10-inch LP, Miles released back in 1952. The album marked a return to his more traditional trumpet playing, although the title song “The Man with the Horn” features wah-wah improvisation along with vocals. The band for the Japanese tour featured bassist Marcus Miller, saxophonist Bill Evans, drummer Al Foster, guitarist Mike Stern, and percussionist Mino Cinelu. The album peaked at #53 on the Billboard 200. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 59.5 x 84.3 cm (approx. 23.4″ by 33.2″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. There are a number of horizontal crease lines running from left to right as well as light overall surface handling wear. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
