Musikhalle, Hamburg May 1994 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising the Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Musikhalle in Hamburg [Germany] on Wednesday, 4th May, 1994, presented by Karsten Jahnke. Besides the leader, Brubeck’s quartet consisted of drummer Randy Jones (1944—2016), clarinetist Bill Smith (1926) and double bassist Jack Six (1930—2015). The date of this specific concert is of interest since 4th May in the United States is informally observed as “Dave Brubeck Day”. In the format most commonly used in the U.S., 4th May is written “5/4,” recalling the time signature of “Take Five”, Brubeck’s best known recording. Brubeck died of heart failure on 5th December, 2012, in Norwalk, Connecticut, one day before his 92nd birthday. He had continued to play well into his old age, performing as late as in 2011. The Concord Boulevard Park in his hometown of Concord, California, was renamed to “Dave Brubeck Memorial Park” in his honor.

The poster measures 59.3 x 83.9 cm (approx.  23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed in yellow, green and black inks on thin, matte-coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have regarding this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
