Town Hall, Birmingham September 1964 concert flyer

Original first printing concert flyer advertising Irish folk legends the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem at the Town Hall, Birmingham [England] on Friday, 25th September, 1964. In the early 1960s, the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem were already established among the leading performers of the folk music revival. They were based in Greenwich Village, which had become a focal point for aspiring young folk singers. Dylan spent a lot of time watching the band perform and studying their singing style. In a 1984 interview, Dylan said he thought Liam Clancy was the best ballad singer he had ever heard. They appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1962 and had a huge impact. Dylan invited them to play at his 30th anniversary concert in 1992. They joined him on stage to sing, When the Ship Comes In. After the show, Dylan insisted that everyone go back to Tommy Makem’s pub in New York for a party.

The flyer measures 25.4 x 19.0 cm (approx. 10″ by 7.5″ inches) and is beautifully printed in green and black inks on thin, coated paper stock. Complete with the original postal booking form still intact. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
