August 1967 Australian concert tour program (2nd Australian Tour)


Original vintage concert program produced for Ray Charles and The Raeletts’ August 1967 Australian tour, presented by Harry M. Miller, and with American keyboardist, singer and songwriter Billy Preston as special guest. The Raelettes featured Gwendolyn Berry, Merry Clayton, Clydie King, and Alexandra Brown, while the orchestra consisted of William King, Marshall Hunt, Walter Miller, and Carl Adams (trumpets); Henry Coker, Fred Murrell, Donald Cooke, and Frederic Johnson (trombones); Joe Roccisan, Curtis Amy, Curtis Peagler, Shellie Thomas, and Leroy Cooper (saxes), Lionel (Billy) Moore (drums); Barry Rilera (guitar); and Edgar Willis (bass). The 5-date tour commenced with two consecutive shows at the Festival Hall in Melbourne on 17th and 18th August and ended with two consecutive shows at the Sydney Stadium in Sydney on 21st and 22nd August. It was Charles’ second tour of Australia, having first visited the country in September 1964.
