January 1978 German concert tour poster (Günther Kieser)
Large original first printing concert poster advertising American jazz-rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears’ German tour during January 1978, presented by Fritz Rau and Michael Scheller. BS&T were touring in support of the Brand New Day album – their tenth album, produced by Roy Halee and Bobby Colomby, and released in November 1977 by ABC Records. Brand New Day garnered positive reviews but slow sales, and failed to reach the Billboard 200 chart, peaking at #205. The European tour ended abruptly after 31-year-old saxophonist Gregory Herbert died of a drug overdose in Amsterdam on 31st January, 1978. Rocked by the event, the group returned home to America. The poster art work by Günther Kieser was originally used for the group’s May 1973 German tour.
The poster measures 60.0 x 84.9 cm (approx. 23.6″ by 33.4″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In remarkably near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
