Philharmonie, Berlin November 1969 advertising brochure

Original vintage tri-fold brochure advertising the 1969 Berliner Jazz Tage staged at the Philharmonie in Berlin [Germany] from 6th to 9th November, 1969, presented and produced by Ralf-Schulte-Bahrenberg. The first day of the festival was a tribute to Duke Ellington called “Piano for Duke”, and featured Joe Turner, Lennie Tristano, Thelonious Monk, Joachim Kühn, and Cecil Taylor. Day two featured the Dave Pike Set with Volker Kriegel, the John Surman Group, Stan Kenton with the Berlin Dream Band, and Miles Davis introducing his new quintet consisting of saxophonist Wayne Shorter,  pianist Chick Corea, bassist Dave Holland, and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Duke Ellington and His Orchestra were the main attraction on day 3, which also featured the Newport All Stars with Barney Kessel and Venuti in a special “Tribute to Duke”. The final day of the festival featured Sarah Vaughan, Lionel Hampton and His Inner Circle, and Burnin’ Red Ivanhoe with saxophonist John Tchicai.
