Berlin, Germany: Schlagzeug #7 July 1959.

Original July 1959 issue of the German jazz magazine “Schlagzeug” (trans. “drums”) with the great Sidney Bechet (1897—1959) on the front cover. This issue contains a 2-page cover tribute to Bechet by Heinz Lukas called “Musik war die Sprache seines Herzens” and a 2-page article about Sonny Rollins called “Verkünder einer neuen Freihet”. Also in this issue:  Ottilie Patterson, John Lewis, Jazz in England, Ken Colyer, Dizzy Gillespie, Artie Shaw, Louis Armstrong, and more. Schlagzeug was a collectible but short-lived German jazz magazine, crammed with news, reviews, pictures and adverts. Published in Berlin during the late 1950’s.

15.5 x 21.7 mm, 36 pp. Trimmed paper wrapper, staple bound. All text in German. In excellent unmarked condition, appears unread. Additional photos available on request.
