Ludwigsparkstadion, Saarbrücken September 1978 concert poster
Original first printing concert poster advertising American singer, songwriter and activist Joan Baez at the Ludwigsparkstadion in Saarbrücken [Germany] on Sunday, 3rd September, 1978, presented by Lippmann+Rau. The concert was part of the Summetime Open Air Festival, also featuring Genesis, Alvin Lee, and John McLaughlin. Baez was touring Europe in support of the Blowin’ Away album. Produced by David Kershenbaum and released in June 1977, Blowin’ Away was her first album after switching from A&M Records to Portrait Records. It veered more toward mainstream pop than any album Baez had recorded up to that point, though many critics at the time pointed out that she seemed not entirely comfortable with her “new sound”. Among the songs covered were the Rod Stewart hit “Sailing”, and the standard “Cry Me a River”, in addition to a number of Baez’ own compositions.
The poster measures 59.9 x 83.8 cm (approx. 23.6″ x 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
