Description
Early 1980s Japanese Hat Hut Records/DIW Records promo poster
Large original first printing Cecil Taylor (1929–2018) promotional poster issued by Hat Hut Records in Japan in the early 1980s, presumably somewhere between One Too Many Salty Swift and Not Goodbye and It is in the Brewing Luminous. Hat Hut Records is a Swiss record company and label founded by Werner Xavier Uehlinger in 1974 that specializes in jazz and classical music. Besides Taylor, the label’s roster includes Ray Anderson, Anthony Braxton, Lisle Ellis, Georg Graewe, Gerry Hemingway, Franz Koglmann, Steve Lacy, Joelle Leandre, Myra Melford, Paul Plimley, Max Roach, Horace Tapscott, Mike Westbrook, John Zorn, Vienna Art Orchestra, David Murray, Luzia von Wyl, Archie Shepp, Jimmy Lyons, Tony Coe, Michel Portal, and Sun Ra. Taylor recorded for Hat Hut Records from 1980–1982. DIW Records, a Japanese record label specializing in avant-garde jazz, manufactured the Hat Hut catalog in Japan. The poster features a striking photo of Taylor credited to Spencer Richards, with the artist’s imprint to the bottom right corner. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
The poster measures 59.2 x 83.7 cm (approx. 23.3″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, gloss-coated paper stock. In excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
