Philharmonie, Berlin September 1964 concert poster (A0) (Michel+Kieser)
Exceedingly scarce large original first printing concert poster advertising the 1964 Berliner Jazz Tage staged at the Philharmonie in Berlin [Germany] from 24th to 27th September, 1964. Presented by Ralf Schulte-Bahrenberg, performing artists included the Miles Davis Quintet; “In Memoriam Charlie Parker” featuring Sonny Stitt, Jay Jay Johnson, Howard McGhee, and Kenny Clarke; the Dave Brubeck Quartet; Sister Rosetta Tharpe; Roland Kirk; the Coleman Hawkins-Harry Edison Swing All Stars featuring the great Jimmy Rushing; the George Russell Sextet, pianist Meade Lux Lewis, Pee Wee Russell, Bud Freeman, and many more. Miles presented the so-called Second Great Quintet, which featured tenor saxophonist Wayne Shorter, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Tony Williams. Striking artwork by graphic duo Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, with their imprint to the lower left side border .
Printed by Gedatdruck, Berlin, the poster is huge and measures 83.6 x 118.3 cm (approx. 32.9″ by 46.6″ inches). It is beautifully printed in red, blue and black inks on thin, uncoated paper stock.
