1982 Japanese CBS/Sony Inc. promo poster (Yasuhisa Yoneda)

Large original first printing “We want JAZZ” promotional poster issued by CBS/Sony Inc. in Japan in 1982. The poster features a striking photo of the legendary jazz club Eddie Condon’s credited to Japanese photographer Yasuhisa Yoneda, with his imprint to the lower right side border. Eddie Condon’s was the name of three successive jazz venues in New York run by jazz banjoist, guitarist, and bandleader Eddie Condon from 1945 until the mid-1980s. The first venue was located on West 3rd Street in Greenwich Village. The club then moved to 52nd Street near Sixth Avenue, the present site of the CBS headquarters building. In March 1975, Red Balaban opened the third incarnation of the club at 144 West 54th Street , after arranging permission for using Eddie’s name from Condon’s widow. He co-led the house band with cornetist Ed Polcer from 1975, with whom he later shared ownership of the club. The club closed in the mid-1980s. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 59.4 x 83.7 cm (approx. 23.4″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. In remarkably near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
