1999 Japanese Epitaph Records promo poster for “Mule Variations”
Original first printing Tom Waits promotional poster issued by Epitaph Records in Japan in 1999 to promote the release of the Mule Variations album – his thirteenth studio album, produced by Waits and Kathleen Brennan, and originally released on 16th April, 1999 on the ANTI- label. It was Waits’ first studio album in six years, following The Black Rider (1993) and received widespread critical acclaim. Mule Variations won a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk album and was nominated for Best Male Rock Performance for the song “Hold On”. It reached #30 on the Billboard 200, and stayed on the charts for 9 weeks. It has sold over 500,000 copies worldwide. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.
