1973 Japanese A&M Records promo poster for “Top of the World”

Original first printing Carpenters promotional poster issued by A&M Records in Japan in 1973 to promote the release of the “Top of the World”/”Druscilla Penny” single. Written by Richard Carpenter and John Bettis, “Top of the World” was originally recorded for and released on the duo’s 1972 studio album A Song for You. The song was initially intended to just remain an album cut, however, when Lynn Anderson’s version, released in mid-1973, was a success, the duo was upset that they hadn’t released their version as a single to begin with. The Carpenters’ version was eventually released as a single on 17th September, 1973, and was a Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit for two consecutive weeks in 1973. For what it’s worth, the A&M catalog was manufactured in Japan by King Records. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never commercially available.

The poster measures 41.8 x 59.7 cm (approx. 16.4″ by 23.5″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, coated paper stock. There is a small diagonal crease to the top right corner, else in excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
