September 1959 German tour blank concert poster (Michel+Kieser)

Original vintage first printing concert poster designed to promote American jazz trombonist Kid Ory’s nationwide tour of Germany during September 1959, presented by Norman Granz. Ory was accompanied by a band that featured trumpeter Henry “Red” Allen, clarinetist Bob McCracken, bassist William Girsback, drummer Alton Redd, and pianist Cedric Haywood. The 10-date German tour commenced at the Ernst Merck Halle in Hamburg on 20th September and ended at the Volksbildungsheim in Frankfurt on 30th September. The German dates were the first stops on a long European tour that continued through October and early November, visiting Austria, France, Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Holland, and Belgium, en route. The poster features artwork by noted graphic duo, Hans Michel and Günther Kieser, with their imprint to the center of the right side border.

The poster measures 59.4 x 84.0 cm (approx. 23.4″ by 33″ inches) and is beautifully printed in blue and black inks on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. There is a tack hole to each corner and a few tape marks to the borders. Else in near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
