October 1959 German concert tour program 


Original vintage concert program produced for the Newport Jazz Festival package tour of Germany, Switzerland and Austria during October 1959, presented by George Wein and C. Ebner. Master of ceremonies was jazz producer and broadcaster on the “Voice of America”, Willis Conover. Performing artists included the Dizzy Gillespie Quintet and the Buck Clayton All Stars with the great Jimmy Rushing. Besides the leader himself, Dizzy’s quintet featured alto saxophonist and flautist Leo Wright, pianist Junior Mance, bassist Art Davis, and drummer Les Humphrey, while Clayton’s group featured trumpeter Emmett Berry, trombonist Dickie Wells, tenor saxophonist Buddy Tate, alto saxophonist Earl Warren, pianist Al Williams, bassist Gene Ramey, and drummer Herbie Lovelle.

In original b/w pictorial matte-coated wrappers, staple bound, 21.0 x 29.7 cm, 8 pp. All text in German. Light wear to spine and extremities, else in excellent condition, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the program available on request.
