Sankei Hall, Tokyo May 1963 concert flyer

Large original double-sided first printing concert handbill advertising the great Thelonious Monk’s three concerts at the Sankei Hall in Tokyo [Japan] on 13th, 14th and 21st May, 1963, with American jazz/blues singer Jimmy Rushing. Monk’s Quartet featured tenor saxophonist Charlie Rouse, drummer Frankie Dunlop, and bassist Butch Warren. John Ore is listed as the bassist on the handbill, but he had left the band prior to the Japanese tour. The album, Monk in Tokyo, released in Japan by Columbia Records as two separate LPs in 1963, was recorded on this tour.

The flyer measures 25.5 x 24.5 cm (approx. 10″ by 9.6″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. Folded horizontally, else in remarkably near excellent condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
