1957 German Metronome Records promo poster

Exceedingly scarce original first printing Modern Jazz Quartet promotional poster issued in 1957 in Germany by Metronome Records. Several of the panels have been authentically signed by all four members, pianist John Lewis, vibraphonist Milt Jackson, drummer Connie Kay, and bassist Percy Heath. The multinational record label Metronome Records was founded in 1949 in Sweden by the brothers Lars and Anders Burman together with their friend Börje Ekberg with the primary aim to release jazz records. In 1950, Mats Bjerke, together with Bent Fabricius-Bjerre, opened an office in Denmark, and in 1954 they expanded to West Germany, founding Metronome Records GmbH. The German branch became part of Polygram in the mid 1970s. Printer’s imprint (AB Roos Tryckerier, Stockholm) to the bottom right corner. The poster was for promotional purposes only, and was never made commercially available.

The poster measures 53.0 x 70.5 cm (approx. 20.9″ by 27.8″ inches) and is beautifully printed on thin, smooth-finish uncoated paper stock. In excellent condition. Folded as issued. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
