Frankfurt: Ullstein Taschenbücher-Verlag (Ullstein Buch Nr. 241), 1959. First edition. German anthology, edited and with an introduction by Walter Hasenclever. The title of the book translates as Young American Literarture. Kerouac’s contribution is “Auf der Strasse” (“In the Street”), an excerpt from On the Road (Part IV, Chapter 5), translated by Georg Binzer.  Other contributors to this anthology include Norman Podhoretz, Flannery O’Connor, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, J.D. Salinger, Kenneth Rexroth, James Purdy, Saul Bellow, Herbert Gold, John Hawkes, and others. Unknown number of copies issued 1959. The front cover artwork is credited to Hermann Rastorfer.

Medium octavo (8vo), 11.7 x 17.7 cm, 192 pp. In original illustrated dull-coated wrappers. Near fine, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the book available on request.
