First Italian edition of On the Road, translated by Magda de Cristofaro. Contains an 31-page introduction by Fernanda Pivano titled “La Beat Generation”. Unknown number of copies issued in February 1959. Identical second and third printings were issued in 1959 and 1961. Publishing price was 1,800 Lire.

Considered a defining work of the postwar beat and counter culture generations, On the Road was originally published by Viking Press on 5th September, 1957. The novel was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005, and the Modern Library ranked the book 55th on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.

Duodecimo (12mo), 406 pp. Green textured paper covered boards that resembles BF type, unfilled cloth. The front cover and spine are stamped in gilt. The back cover has a Medusa head blind stamped. White gloss-coated dust jacket printed in green, gold and black inks. Fine in a very good dust jacket. Additional photos available on request.
