Leipzig: Verlag Philipp Reclam (Universal-Bibliothek Band 760), 1978. First printing of the first East German edition of On the Road, translated by Georg Binzer and Werner Burkhardt. A second printing was issued in 1980, and a third printing in 1987. The original West German translation from 1959 was used for this edition. Contains a 9-page afterword by Bernhard Scheller called “Auf halben Wege” (trans.: “Half Way”). Unknown number of copies issued 1978. Published at 2.50 M. Front panel artwork credited to Frederikke Pondelik using a paiting by Robert Rauschenberg (“Black Market”, 1961).
Sextodecimo (16mo), 10.8 x 17.8 cm, 352 pp. In original illustrated linen-finish embossed uncoated wrappers, perfect bound. Near fine, tightly bound and clean. Additional images of the book available on request.
