Description

Kurhaus, Scheveningen & Concertgebouw, Amsterdam September 1958 concert program

Original vintage concert program for “Jazz From Carnegie Hall” staged at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on Saturday, 27th September, 1958, presented by Lou van Rees in cooperation with Harold Davison. When British producer Harold Davison thought of rivalling Norman Granz’ “Jazz At The Philharmonic”, he invented “Jazz from Carnegie Hall”. Although a short-lived affair, the line-up was spectacular. Led by master bop trombonists J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding, the all-star band also featured saxophonists Lee Konitz and Zoot Sims, pianists Phineas Newborn Jr. and Red Garland, double bassist Oscar Pettiford and drummer Kenny Clarke. Although eight musicians were featured, they didn’t perform as an octet, but took turns in different small groups, creating cool and intimate atmospheres. The concert at the Concertgebouw was recorded and released in 2012 as Star Eyes: Live in Amsterdam 1958.

Original black and white pictorial matte-coated two-fold brochure, 18.2 x 26.2 cm. All text in Dutch. The program has been folded twice with light wear along the fold lines. Additional images of the program available on request.
