Stadthalle, Düsseldorf May 1976 concert poster

Original first printing concert poster advertising the Queen of Jazz, Ella Fitzgerald at the Stadthalle in Düsseldorf [Germany] on Friday, 21st May, 1976, presented by Lippmann+Rau and René Heinersdorff in association with Norman Granz’s Pablo Records. For the European tour Fitzgerald was accompanied by the Tommy Flanagan Trio, and with trumpeter Roy Eldridge, and guitarist Joe Pass as special guest artists. In 1962, Flanagan was asked by jazz impresario Norman Granz to become Ella Fitzgerald’s full-time accompanist. He worked with Fitzgerald from 1962 to 1965, where he left Fitzgerald to be part of Art Farmer’s short-lived New York Jazz Sextet. He returned to working with Fitzgerald again in 1968. In addition to being her pianist, mostly as part of a trio, he was also her musical director. Fitzgerald’s popularity meant that a lot of touring was required, including at least one tour of Europe a year. During these concerts, Flanagan often played a set as part of his trio, without the singer. Flanagan ended his role with Fitzgerald in 1978, after he had a heart attack and had become tired of extensive touring.

The poster measures 60.0 x 84.0 cm and is printed on thin, uncoated paper stock. In excellent unfolded and unmarked condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the poster available on request.
