Free Trade Hall, Manchester May 1969 concert flyer
Large original first printing concert flyer advertising Ella Fitzgerald’s two performances at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester [England] on Saturday, 24th May, 1969, presented by Harold Davison and Norman Granz. Accompanied by pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Frank de la Rosa, and drummer Ed Thigpen, the concerts in Manchester were the first British stop on an extensive European, which culminated with two shows at the Lucerna Hall in Prague on 27th June, 1969. While touring in England, Warner Bros. booked studio time at Olympic Studios in London for her to work with producer Richard Perry. The efforts resulted in the album Ella, the first of two albums recorded for the Reprise label. The album continued the theme set on Fitzgerald’s previous album, consisting in the main part of cover versions of popular songs from the late 1960s.
The flyer measures 16.0 x 26.8 cm and is beautifully printed in black ink on thin, coated paper stock. Complete with the original postal booking form still intact. Folded twice horizontally, else in near excellent condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
