Palais des Beaux-Arts, Brussels October 1972 concert flyer

Original first printing double-sided concert flyer advertising Festival Jazz From Newport staged at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels [Belgium] from 25th to 28th October, 1972. Performing artists included The Giants of Jazz, Charles Mingus, Cat Anderson, Elvin Jones, and Julian Cannonball Adderley. The Giants of Jazz was a true all-star group featuring trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie, pianist Thelonious Monk, drummer Art Blakey, saxophonist Sonny Stitt, trombonist Kai Winding, and bassist Al McKibbon. They toured Europe during October and November 1971, and again during October and November 1972. The idea for the tours was made by George Wein, who wanted to organize a series of concerts with the last surviving great names in bebop. Although there was no leader, Dizzy Gillespie would do most of the speaking. Many of their concerts were broadcast and the show at the New Victoria Theatre in London on 14th November, 1971, was officially released by Atlantic Records as a double album in 1972.

The flyer measures 12.0 x 18.0 cm (approx. 4.7″ by 7.1″ inches) and is beautifully printed in red, blue and black inks on thin, coated paper stock. In near excellent unfolded condition. Feel free to email us with any questions you may have concerning this item. Additional images of the flyer available on request.
